"From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."
Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
...
If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.
Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a human."
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog." just smile, because they "just don't understand."

I made it!
This is a terrible picture.. I'm wearing black and the sling is black, it's blurry, but whatever. I'll take a better one another time. You can see he's hiding his face and snuggling in. He actually loved being swaddled up in it!
Inflatable Collar + Make your own dog sling!
Jake is not a fan of the inflatable collar, and neither am I! I can't wait till Sunday to see if he can take it off. He does look pretty cute in it, though :).
When he first came home from the vet he was still kind of asleep which allowed me to get this pic of his eyes. They have a golden ring and then a grey/blue ring. Very hard to get a good picture of if he squints at all.
I have been researching dog slings since he can't go out much until his sutures heal, and I want to take him out with me. I thought it would also be great for when we fly home in July; he can hang out in the sling while we get checked in and ready to board and my hands will be free to take care of things. They run about $30+ normally, but I decided to see if I could make it myself and I found this video.

I am gonna go pick out fabric at Joanns today and at some point try to assemble it. I don't have my sewing machine here so it should be interesting. :)
My what pretty teeth you have... He's not growling in this pic just chewin on his treat :)
